30 Years of Conventions

30 Years of Conventions

Thirty years ago, in 1996, a group of Parrot Heads in the Northeast had a simple idea: bring the flock together in the middle of winter to break up the winter blahs. What followed was the first New England Parrot Head Convention, and nobody who was there could have imagined it would still be going strong three decades later.

In those early years, the convention was a true community effort in every sense. Each year, a different New England Parrot Head club would step up and take the helm, putting their own stamp on the event. Their own theme, their own flavor, their own slice of the island spirit. It was a labor of love, passed from club to club, and that tradition carried the convention all the way through 2020.

Then came 2021, and like so much else, the convention faced an uncertain road. But Parrot Heads don’t give up that easily. A dedicated group of volunteers from clubs across the entire region came together with one shared mission: keep the tradition alive. Out of that effort, the Northeast Regional Parrot Head Convention was reborn in 2022. No longer tied to a single host club, but powered by the collective heart of the whole community.

And here we are.
Thirty years of themes and memories. Thirty years of costume contests, live music, late nights, and legendary stories that get better every time they’re told. Thirty years of giving back, because that’s what Parrot Heads do.

The faces have changed, the venues have changed, and yes, the margarita recipes may have evolved, but the spirit has never wavered. This community is the convention, and the convention is this community.

Take a minute and walk down memory lane with us! Have pictures or know some of the missing information, please let us know!
